Scotch is a diagonal stitch made up of interlocking squares in diagonal rows.

STEP BY STEP

  1. To begin make a Tent Stitch across one intersection of the canvas then make a second stitch immediately below it over 2 intersections.  Then your third stitch is the longest stitch across 3 intersections, the fourth across two and end with a tent stitch.

  2. Your final tent stitch also acts as the first stitch of the next square in the diagonal row Repeat the sequence diagonally to the end of your first row.

  3. For your second row the squares interlock by placing the longest stitch of the new row next to the shortest stitch of the previous row.
